Department: Recreation and Community Services

Job Summary :

The Recreational Aide plays a pivotal role in supporting recreational programs and activities organized by the department. They assist in facilitating events, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and enhancing participants’ enjoyment. Their contribution is crucial in creating a positive and engaging environment for all participants.


Key Responsibilities :

Program Assistance :

  • Support the setup and breakdown of recreational activities and events.
  • Assist participants in understanding the rules and guidelines of activities.
  • Ensure equipment is available and in good condition for participants.

Participant Safety :

  • Monitor activities to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Report any hazards or concerns to the Recreation Coordinator immediately.
  • Administer first aid when necessary and maintain an updated certification.

Customer Service :

  • Greet participants and provide information on scheduled activities.
  • Address any concerns or inquiries from participants or guardians.
  • Ensure a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all.

Administrative Support :

  • Help in maintaining accurate records of equipment, attendance, and incident reports.
  • Assist in scheduling and organizing recreational events.

Maintenance :

  • Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of recreational facilities.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.

Required Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience in a recreational or community service role.
  • Specialized training or certification related to specific recreational activities (e.g., lifeguard certification, coaching credentials).

Working Conditions :

  • Mostly indoor, but some outdoor activities might be involved, requiring exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Physical demands include lifting, bending, standing for prolonged periods, and moving equipment.

Compensation :

Hourly Wage: $14 – $18 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Overtime: Paid at 1.5 times the standard hourly rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a week.
