Job Summary :

The Meat Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional service to customers seeking meat products. They will handle, prepare, and package meat merchandise while ensuring the display area is well-stocked and clean. They must possess knowledge about various meat products and have the skills to cut and handle meat properly.


Key Responsibilities :

Customer Service :

  • Assist customers by providing product knowledge and answering queries.
  • Offer preparation suggestions and inform customers about any ongoing promotions.

Meat Handling :

  • Properly handle meats to ensure safety and prevent contamination.
  • Use equipment such as knives and slicers to cut, trim, or prepare meat.

Merchandising :

  • Stock display cases, ensuring products are properly labeled and priced.
  • Rotate products to ensure freshness, removing any expired or near-expiration items.

Cleanliness and Safety :

  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work area, adhering to safety and health standards.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned and stored correctly after use.

Inventory Management :

  • Monitor inventory levels and notify the manager of any shortages.
  • Assist in the receipt of deliveries, checking for product accuracy and quality.

Required Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of safe meat handling practices.
  • Good customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience in a meat department or related area.
  • Knowledge of different cuts, types, and preparations of meat.

Working Conditions :

  • Cold environment due to meat preservation requirements.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and lifting heavy packages.

Compensation :

Hourly Wage: $12 to $18 per hour, depending on experience and location.
